Is February a good time to visit Mauritius?

January and February are mid-summer months in Mauritius and beach goers are all but guarenteed good weather. The days will be in the 30s and the evenings will be warm and balmy. The rainy season also falls over the summer months, but the morning and afternoon thunderstorms are actually often a refreshing relief from the heat. Thunderstorms pass quickly and the clouds quickly disappear, to be replaced by clear blue skies. February is also in the cyclone season although in practice cyclones are rare - the last major one hit in January 2002, and the authorities are good at predicting them and warnings are given in plenty of time.
 

Climate in Mauritius in February 

The temperature in February ranges from 35°C (95°F) in the middle of the day to around 22°C (70°F) in the evenings. The sea is warm throughout the year, and in February the sea temperature will be a comfortable 27°C (79°F), ideal for swimming or snorkeling. The average rainfall in Mauritius during January is 240 mm, which makes it one of the wettest months, but the showers do not last long. February is also one of the most humid months, with humidity at 84 percent, which pleasantly balmy rather than uncomfortably sticky. All hotels have air con to ensure a good night's sleep.

The weather in February is ideal for a beach holiday and prices are less expensive than over the peak Christmas and Easter holidays making it a good time to visit Mauritius. The Chinese New Year takes place in February and locals come together to feast and watch fireworks and lively dragon dances. The Marlin World Cup happens at the end of February and start of March at Le Morne Angler's Club in Black River.

 

What to pack for a holiday in Mauritius in February

Beach clothes and a book, and perhaps a light jacket and some smarter clothes for the evening. Women should remember to cover up between the beach and their hotel.
